Cattermole to stay at Sunderland

Midfielder Lee Cattermole will stay at Sunderland despite it being understood Stoke had a bid accepted for him.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet signed Scotland international midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Brighton on deadline day, opening up the possibility of Cattermole's departure.

The 25-year-old former Wigan Athletic player looked set for a move to the Potters, but will stay at Sunderland.

Cattermole has made over 90 appearances for the club, whom he joined in 2009.
